Elephant Sushi

Checked off another one of the restaurants on my ever-growing list of San Francisco restaurants to try. I met up with a friend for dinner at Elephant Sushi after hearing about its wonderfulness. We had heard that there is typically a long wait so we made sure to arrive when the restaurant opens. We thought that the restaurant opens at 6pm but when we got there, there were already people seated and waiting for their food. Regardless, we were able to get seated at the last two remaining bar seats!

We ordered the hamachi truffle appetizer, 4 kinds of assorted sashimi, uni + quail egg nigiri, and the flaming seabass roll mostly for the novelty of having a dish in flames. No doubt the uni was my favorite item and because my friend somehow detests uni, I got to have both :-) The hamachi truffle was also fantastic and a dish I'd recommend. The hamachi was drizzled with a light, refreshing dressing and unlike some truffle dishes at other restaurants, these truffles were large enough to really get the flavor. The flaming seabass roll was delicious but I'm not quite sure what the ingredients are because all I tasted was extreme creaminess... and I'm glad I had access to a big bowl of house-pickled ginger because it was a nice contrast to the heavy roll. Overall, a great place for creative sushi dishes and a restaurant I'd come back to when looking for untraditional Japanese food.
